The Hatchling Pincushion

Every pincushion tells a story.

Here there most definitely be dragons! You would think that mama dragons would know better than to assume the color of a hatchling based on the color of the egg. From the moment she nestled this jeweled green egg in the safety of a circle of rocks on an otherwise alarming precipice, this mama dragon thought of her hatchling as "Spruce". She imagined him a vibrant green the shade of the first grasses on the open meadows and the new growth tips of the spruce trees in the Enchanted Forest. It was quite a surprise then, when the hatchling broke open his tough shell with his even tougher horns, stretched and preened his glorious amber and dark ember scales. Mama dragon recovered quickly and watched proudly as her hatchling spluttered and coughed in his first attempts to breathe fire. He managed some sparks and a little smoke. She knew he would soon be thirsty and need to be carried to the Dragon's Pool for his first sips of icy cold water.

I hardly know where to start with this pincushion. There are so many details. I've used a metallic foiled felt for his wings and horns. If you use this pincushion for actual pins, please avoid these foiled areas. The rest of the design features lots of metallic and sparkly threads and I've paid special attention to embroidering the eyes. Little "Spruce" has oodles of character and I'm sure is going to keep his mama dragon very busy!

This pincushion measures 3.5 inches in diameter and stands approximately 2.25inches tall. It is entirely hand stitched from 100% wool felt and stuffed with premium ultra plush polyester fill. Each small felt shape is individually cut by hand and carefully stitched in place.
