Little Dell Cottage - pincushion

Every pincushion tells a story.
Were you brave enough to travel through the Enchanted Forest, you would find the path (which you should never stray from) meanders past many different landscape features. One of the most picturesque is the forest dell, a small clearing shaped like a bowl with the sides created by rocks and banks. Because the sun can shine down through the tree canopy, flowers thrive and vines scramble up the rocks and tree trunks. This is prime real estate for some fairy folk but their little homes are tricky to spot under the verdant foliage. This little fairy home is no exception and has leaves and flowers surrounding it. In every corner of the dell there are mushrooms and this little home has a beautiful one growing on the roof. If you look closely you'll notice that the hardware on this little home is gnome made ironwork which has extra protective properties.

For the "bark" of this tree stump pincushion, I've used lovely dark brown, hand dyed felted wool. All other felt used is traditional 100% wool felt. Each tiny piece is individually cut by hand and then carefully appliquéd and embroidered in place. The top has embroidered tree rings.

This tree stump measures 2.5 inches in diameter and stands approximately 4 inches tall (to the top of the mushroom). All my pincushions are stuffed with premium ultra-plush polyester fill and these tree stump pincushions have a sturdy circle of interfacing in the base to help keep them stable.
